WHAT THE MANUFACTURER SAYS:

Using a technology called FLCOS, (Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal on Silicon) the VR1280 is capable of displaying high resolution images with a much better colour reproduction than standard LCD displays. Due to the reflective nature of LCOS displays, the viewing  area is a little more specific compared to other HMDs that used LCD displays, but the VR1280 is well engineered with 2 ratchets for quick and precise adjustment.

The VR 1280 plugs into a control box which in turn is connected to a PC via VGA cables. The HMD can do both monoscopic and stereoscopic. If intended to be used monscopically, the control box need only be connected to one VGA output. This output is then duplicated in both eyes. This is all done automatically. Stereo will require two VGA outputs. Brightness and contrast can be controlled using the switches on the front panel of the control box. Audio is connected via the line in and played back through high quality Sennheiser headphones mounted to the sides of the HMD.

WHAT INITION SAYS:

The VR1280 by Virtual Research is a dual input SXGA HMD designed for advanced VR applications and has the ability to operate in 3D stereoscopic and mono modes with options to add tracking devices.
