Motion tracking for launch of adidas Alpha4D Futurecraft shoe

BRIEF

INITION created an experiential installation for the launch of the adidas Alpha Edge 4D in their flagship store on Hanbury Street.  The 4D printed sole unit took center stage in an evening focused on the potential impact this innovative new material might have on the sneaker industry and beyond.

Using the Kinect we tracked peoples movement and played it back to them in real time, replacing themselves with a wireframe based on the design of the midsole of the Futurecraft 4D.

We opted to use the Kinect motion tracking camera, which is great at translating visuals into data which can be used to create a striking experience.

After several iterations tweaking the way the visuals respond to your movement we settled on a version which reflects the four different profiles of the user’s body all brought together in one scene.

The piece was rolled out at the event with two vertical 96-inch screens, this gave the impression of a digital mirror where the user could see a 1:1 reflection of themselves to give something that guests could interact with and add to the spectacle of the product launch event.
