Stereoscopic (stereo or 3D) content adds depth, realism and a ‘wow’ factor to any production. Combined with traditional production values, stereoscopic 3D provides an opportunity to take moving images to another level of realism and immersion. The options and workflow for 3D content creation can be confusing as there are many considerations and techniques available, depending on subject matter and the type of 3D display for which it is destined. Inition can provide expertise and equipment to help with:
Inition is part of The3DFirm. The3DFirm is a European-based alliance between Axis, Inition and Can Communicate, formed to provide a comprehensive solution for delivering high quality stereoscopic 3D experiences that entertain, influence and engage audiences. Live-action 3D content creation typically involves using two cameras side-by-side to capture the left and right eye images. Inition have many years' experience developing and using stereo video equipment, from stereo dual camera mounts to live on-site 3D preview systems. Shooting with two cameras instead of one obviously complicates the production and post-production process but with Inition’s guidance, this won’t be prohibitively complex or costly. Inition take a flexible approach to 3D production – we can produce the entire piece – providing 3D-experienced crew and equipment for the shoot, post-production and deployment. Alternatively we can simply provide expertise (i.e. a stereographer) and/or equipment to handle the 3D elements of a shoot. We can also advise on post-production solutions including how to handle editorial and other aspects of post in 3D. Click here to see a range of 3D filming rigs
Computer Generated (CGI) or animated content creation is handled using industry standard animation packages. Considerations for 3D are usually made early on in the storyboard stages to optimize 3D effects. Inition has an in-house creative team experienced in all aspects of 3D CGI content production. The basic principle is that two separate randers are created, each from a slightly different camera position to create the 3D effect. We also produce content for the new generation of glasses-free displays such as the Philips WowVx. Take a look at our MPH case study for more on our capabilites. We have experience in character animation, product modeling, architectural fly-throughs, motion capture, and 3D scanning. We also offer stereoscopic production training to selected partners.
2D to 3D Conversion can be applied to live-action or CGI productions to add 3D depth to standard 2D material. This is useful when re-shooting existing material in 3D is impractical or too expensive. Inition have access to the most sophisticated software algorithms available which have been developed specifically for this complex task and make 2D to 3D conversion a practical and cost-effective option for 3D content creation.
Viewing the content in 3D requires a special 3D display. We are able to offer an unrivalled range of 3D viewing solutions suitable for anything from a single viewer to thousands of viewers. We pride ourselves in only providing 3D equipment of the highest quality. A visit to our demo studios in London or Melbourne will confirm this. We have installed stereo theatres, both permanent and temporary, the world over. For example, we provide the 3D projection and playback technology for the world tours of Starlight Express (touring since 2002) and for the MPH Show (currently visiting the UK, South Africa, Dubai and Australia). We have completed more than fifty 3D projection system installations in the UK.
