A ground breaking collaboration between 3D specialists Inition (www.inition.co.uk) and leading choreographer Rob Tannion is set to blow audiences away at the Royal Festival Hall this coming Saturday (23 April).

Tannion – who is currently South Bank artist in residence - is organising a series of educational workshops, demonstrations and performances designed to highlight the crossover between dance, martial arts and video games.

Inition are sponsoring the project with motion capture and stereoscopic expertise and coordinating several commercial partners. They are also exhibiting their interactive Virtual Fluid.

Tannion is presenting a dance performance called ‘Take Action: Stunt Dancing’ on the Saturday. Frequent collaborator Desiree Kongerod’s movements will be captured by eighteen tiny inertial sensors in GypsyGyro-18 motion capture suite - and then projected in real time in the guise of a live 3D character designed by Inition.

The GypsyGyro-18 is perfect for the project because it requires little or no calibration and yet delivers instantaneous ultra clean data - unlike all previous systems. Furthermore its lightweight design and large capture area is ideal for dancing.

Tannion was founder member of the well regarded physical dance company DV8. He has worked with the likes of Chris Cunningham and Aphex Twin and has now formed dance company Stan Won’t Dance. Kongerod is a renowned dancer and circus performer and has appeared in Apparition in collaboration with digital artist Klaus Obermaier.
