Inition help Amersham to demonstrate new radioactive waste processing facility
12/02/02

Following the commissioning of a number of very successful stereo presentations, Amersham Plc. called again upon Inition to create a stereo visualization of their new Sea Drum Handling Facility.

Since 1983, with the curtailment of the policy of disposal of radioactive waste in the sea, these concrete and lead-lined drums have been kept in storage. Amersham resolved to retrieve the waste, sort and repackage it in a manner suitable for long-term storage. This required the building of a brand new purpose built facility at Amersham's Harwell site.

Inition's brief was to produce a short and engaging video that would convey to the public the processes Amersham Plc use in order to deal with the waste in a responsible, safe and environmentally acceptable manner.

The project was completed within a tight schedule, taking only four-weeks from concept to completion. Created in conjunction with Storm Design Studio and MGA International, the experience takes the audience on a journey through the plant from the moment the old drum is cut open to the repackaging of the waste in modern lead-lined long-term storage containers. The use of stereoscopy creates a compelling experience and helps reinforce the important message being presented. Inition also commission an original sound track and voice-over for the video.

"This video is a great help in explaining the work we do here to the public. We are very impressed with the quality of the finished result especially given the timescale of less than one month from concept to completion".
Peter Hayes, Site Manager, Amersham Plc.

The video was first shown on the 21st November 2001 to industry representatives using Inition's 3D-Vidbox and rear-projected stereo assembly.
