Inition debuts Organic Motion markerless motion capture
|
01 September 2008
|
Inition is proud to offer to the market the world's first markerless motion capture system.
If that wasn't news enough, the system also works in real time, and captures performers or the public in their street clothing.
This innovation truly brings motion capture to the people. Previously the nearest the public might have got to the process was the DVD 'making of' extras for the latest hollywood blockbuster. Now the process that brought Gollum to life in the Lord of the Rings trilogy has been brought down to earth. Companies and individuals with no previous experience can now purchase a system for anything their imagination can dream of.
The Organic Motion capture system, consisting of Stage, BioStage, and OpenStage products, is available right now as a commercial product fully proven in the marketplace.
Please contact Inition for a personal demo of this groundbreaking system. |

EPICS takes the MVT scanner to the next level.
|
06 August 2008
|
When the EPICS (Engineering Projects in Community Service) project were looking to scan artefacts for the Auckland war memorial museum, they came to Inition’s Thinglab for the latest in 3D scanning technology. The group aims to digitise artefacts “for the purpose of digital archiving, cultural and historical preservation and public education”.
Using an MVT scanner and Rapidform combination, the EPICS team came up with a novel way of squeezing even more out the system. By coupling the scanner head to a KUKA industrial robot arm, the team were able to improve further the quality of the meshes produced by the system. “Moulage's auto-alignment eliminates most position errors between scans. The scans from the sweeps are also finely aligned in Rapidform. Markers such as rulers are placed under or around the artefact to help with this alignment. The KUKA scanning process is repeated for each position the artefact has to be in for all its surfaces to be scanned”.
Using this method, EPICS have scanned a number of objects, some of which are available on their website where the meshes can be viewed online in an interactive 3D model. |

Inition’s new baby, Thinglab Australia gives birth to a Lungfish!
|
23 July 2008
|
The inauguration of Thinglab Australia was cemented by the 3D scanning of a prehistoric lungfish for Dr. John Long, Head of Science Museum Victoria. The discovery of these fossils has turned the science world on its head as it is the earliest known example of any creature giving birth to live young (no eggs!), 150 million years before the dinosaurs. To support the announcement of the discovery, Museum Victoria needed a video of the lungfish giving birth - but how to get video footage of a 375 million year old fish?
Melbourne based Reel Pictures turned to Thinglab to create a mesh from a sculpted model (or maquette). The delicate polymer clay sculpt was scanned by Thinglab’s Australian branch with great results using a Mephisto Complete / Rapidform pipeline. The resulting mesh was then textured and animated at Reel Pictures to create the finished clip for the media release. |

The Sky's the limit for 3DPrinting at ThingLab
|
24 June 2008
|
| The brief was to design and 3D print a lightweight but strong articulated rig capable of holding a camera while flying hundreds of metres up on a kite! Simple: use a ProJet 3000 3D printer from 3D Systems. The camera would have to be held securely to the kite line while allowing it to be pointed in any direction and take hundreds of pictures fully automatically. |

Reebok relaunch Amir Khan deal with 3D film
|
20 March 2008
|
Inition were proud to be involved in making a short 3D film of boxer Amir Khan training at his new gym. Inition provided a stereographer, post-production and 3D projection for the film which was shown at London’s National Film Theatre to an audience of press and media to relaunch Amir’s deal with Reebok.
The reaction was fantastic and secured coverage in the national press. In a interview with The Sun, Amir said: "The way they did it was brilliant...If anyone wants to fight me, just look at that. I'm looking at it and thinking 'if I was fighting Amir Khan, what would I do?', and I looked at it and thought 'forget this!'."
The Guardian commented: “The clip duly finishes with a giant Khan repeatedly punching a theatre full of journalists in the face. Which is indeed cool and different.”

| On a mission to bring the new worlds of Virtual Reality to its students, Bradford College took delivery this week of the first stage of its substantial investment in up-to-the-minute technology.
With a brief to introduce its students to the widest possible range of VR equipment, Inition has worked with Bradford to design and implement systems that will integrate seamlessly into the College’s future teaching curricula. Included amongst the supplied equipment are head mounted displays, autostereoscopic screens, a Gypsy motion capture system and VR authoring tools. |
