Multiview Autostereoscopic Displays

Multiview screens allow the 3-D image to be viewed without glasses from a wide range of angles and distances. They are a relatively new addition to the 3D display market and open up a wide range of new opportunities to exploit 3D imagery. These screens are ideally suited to situations where an eye-catching display is required, for example:

•	Digital signage
•	Retail display
•	Museum, gallery and exhibition displays
•	Scientific Visualisation

The passer-by is able to see the full 3D imagery without having to stand in a particular place or where special eyewear - something that has not been possible until recently.

There are two important points to note when considering multi-view screens:

1. They are not directly compatible with standard stereoscopic footage or software. This is because, rather than display two distinct views to the viewer (as with most other stereoscopic displays), they provide up to 9, allowing the viewer to walk around the screen whilst maintaining the 3D effect. Content can easily be created specifically for these screens or by applying a conversion process to standard stereoscopic footage - both of which Inition can advise on.

2. Due to the display showing 8 or 9 views simultaneously, each view contains only 1/8 or 1/9 of the standard resolution of the display panel. Whilst this may make certain models of these screens a poor choice for certain applications (such CAD or medical image viewing), it does not impact the image as much as you would expect - we advise a visit to our demo studio to see for yourself.
